Nikkor 8mm T3.2 Ultra Wide Angle Prime Rehoused by Oppenheimer
Our beautiful Nikkor 8mm T3.2 Ultra Wide Angle Prime Rehoused by Oppenheimer is a literal piece of film history this lens was used at the heart of the Hal 9000 on Kubricks’ Space Odyssey 2001!
An Ultra Wide Angle Lens designed to provide the widest possible angle of view for 35mm motion picture cinematography. The Oppenheimer version of the original Nikkor is mechanically a new lens. The lens is adjusted to fully cover a 35 Academy frame, and to cover a Super 35 frame out to a 1.78 image area.
The angle of view of the Oppenheimer/Nikkor 8mm is significantly wider than that of a 10mm Zeiss. With the addition of an optional kit, your lens technician can reset the lens to the original Nikkor coverage which, while somewhat wider, vignettes just outside “TV Safe.” The focus mechanism has been reworked to focus in the “correct” direction. The focus barrel is geared and marked in your choice of either feet or meters.
A 40.5mm filter tray has been built into the lens, and the design will allow up to three 40.5mm filters. This is a uniquely capable lens, for your specialty and ultra wide angle needs..
